Roy E. Hofer is a seasoned intellectual property litigator with over 50 years of experience in patent, trade secret, trade dress, and related antitrust and contract matters.
Much of Roy’s practice today focuses on alternative dispute resolution for intellectual property matters. He serves as a mediator, arbitrator, special master and early neutral evaluator in IP matters. His experience in Federal Circuit and district court cases provides him with exceptional insight into resolving intellectual property disputes efficiently and with regard to the parties' bottom line results.
Roy also counsels parties involved in district court and appellate IP litigation.
He is frequently called upon by national media outlets to provide legal perspective on IP matters, and is an accomplished author and lecturer on matters related to alternative dispute resolution.
Roy was previously a partner with Brinks Hofer Gilson & Lione, one of the nation's largest IP firms, where he served as the firm's president from 1996 to 2000. He obtained the largest jury award in the firm's history, a $102 million verdict in patent infringement litigation related to plastic films for packaging meats.
Prior to entering private practice, Roy was a patent examiner with the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office and a patent agent for Exxon Corporation.
